X. OUR SUMMARY STATEMENT OF BELIEF
INTRODUCTION
As the title of this most serious undertaking states, laid out in the following pages of
this study is what I have come, to date, to believe The Bible teaches concerning the
doctrine of salvation. I have done this in all seriousness as I have already stated above. My intention, by
the briefness of this work, was not to mock or make light of this holy and magnificent topic
or of the countless scholarly volumes that must exist on this topic. I praise GOD for all of the wonderful and dedicated teachers that HE has raised up
over the centuries who have even attempted such an enormous undertaking as to teach
and explain the truth of GOD'S WORD concerning this subject. I have no desire to impress anyone with my great wisdom and intelligence or my
deep and vast knowledge of the wonders of THE WORD OF GOD. If such abilities exist
in me (which I doubt) then I would first be shocked out of my socks that THE INFINITE AND
ALL-KNOWING LORD OF ALL would choose to deposit such treasures in a pot as
common as I; then I would praise THE LORD, because they are of HIM and definitely not
of me. Any and all truth contained in this teaching is here only because of GOD'S mercy
and blessing. And all of the glory is HIS. I, however, will take full credit for any mistakes. My desire for this project from the very start was to collect verses from throughout
the Bible that would document what I believe the Bible teaches concerning salvation. I
wanted to stick strictly to THE WORD OF GOD without using any man's commentary and
without dragging in any of the traditions of men that I have been exposed to along the way.
Some may say that my intentions aren't realistic. I disagree. This study was done for me
as much as for anyone else THE LORD will lead me to share it with. And I wanted to be
taught by GOD totally from HIS WORD. And I was willing to forsake any beliefs that I have
been holding on to if HE would show me that they were wrong. Well let me tell you that I've
had that carpet pulled out from under my spiritual feet more than once. And hey, I'm not
so arrogant as to believe that now I know it all concerning this or any other subject of
GOD'S WONDERFUL WORD OF LIFE. That's why I included that little "to date" or "so far"
up there at the beginning of this introduction. While we don't want to be caught up in every little wind of teaching that comes along,
we need to always be open and receptive to the teaching of our TRUE TEACHER, THE
HOLY SPIRIT. We need to test all teaching against The Bible and be willing to cast off
error and cling fervently to THE TRUTH OF GOD.
All of the scriptures that are quoted here were taken from the New International
Version of the Bible. In some cases the entire verse has been included, however, in other
instances only part of the verse will be quoted. This was not done to distort or hide the
truth of GOD'S WORD for the purpose of deceiving anyone. It was done solely for the
purpose of presenting the truth of THE WORD OF GOD, while, at the same time, taking
up a little less time and space than would otherwise be required.
For this reason (my desire to present to you the whole truth of GOD'S WORD concerning
this subject) I strongly encourage you to personally examine, and compare for yourself, all
scriptures herein with your copy of GOD'S WORD. I have tried to compose this teaching of as much scriptures, and as little of me, as
possible, keeping my comments to a minimum. Just to let you know that, while I am an ordained
minister, I have not had the honor (or endured the torment - depending on how you feel about it) of studying the deep truths of GOD's WORD at the feet of any of the "great" theologians in any of the world's "finest" seminaries. I have, am, and (by the grace of GOD) will
continue to be taught by THE GREATEST TEACHER OF ALL...THE PRECIOUS HOLY
SPIRIT OF GOD. I've said this again so you'll know that any truth that comes out of this,
and any blessings that you might derive from this teaching, are due to the infinite wisdom
of our TEACHER and not due to me in any way. And again, I will take full credit for any
mistakes found throughout...I'm a master at those. Just as THE HOLY SPIRIT is my teacher, if you are a child of GOD, HE is your
teacher as well...trust HIM to help you set aside any tradition or prejudice and let HIM teach
you also. This is not to say that don't listen to human teachers. I most certainly do. There are many wonderful teachers of GOD's WORD. And I have my favorites. However, man's teachings must take second place to GOD's. We must judge the teachings of man by the teachings of GOD. Not the other way around. GOD's WORD must be the foundation, not opinions, feelings, not what we may see with our eyes, or hear with our ears.
In studying the material to follow, you will come across some things that you won't
agree with. There may even be some things that you violently object to. When this
happens, and you run for your concordance to locate those scriptures that prove your
opposing view, remember: You not only have to show, by scripture, that your view is right,
you must show, by scripture, that the view presented here is wrong. If you can't do both,
you have created for yourself a contradiction in GOD'S HOLY WORD. Now if it is GOD'S
WORD and if GOD is who HE says HE is, then there can be no contradictions. If a
contradiction exists, it exists for one of two reasons: 1. Either GOD'S HOLY WORD isn't
GOD'S HOLY WORD (which, of course, it is) or; 2. We've made a mistake by taking HIS
WORD out of context, thus twisting and confusing the truth of HIS WORD. THE LORD showed me a long time back that The Bible is like a puzzle: When all
of the pieces are put together as they were designed to be, we have a beautiful, and perfect
picture of THE TRUTH; however, when we either throw pieces away simply because we
don't know where they go or how they fit in or just don't like them; or when we try to force pieces to fit where they
were never designed to fit, we have a confused and distorted picture of HIS TRUTH.
We may not like certain pieces or know where they fit, but every piece is important, every piece is needed, and every piece has that one place where it fits perfectly. Whether it be this study, or any other study of GOD'S PRECIOUS WORD that we find
ourselves involved in, let us remember something very important: All Scripture is GOD breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of
GOD may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
I. SAVED FROM WHAT?
A. Saved From Eternal Torment In Hell.
DEUTERONOMY 32:22 For a fire has been kindled by MY wrath, one that burns to the
realm of death below (or to the lowest part of the netherworld)...
2 SAMUEL 23:6-7 But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns...they are burned up
where they lie."
JOB 18:5 "The lamp of the wicked is snuffed out...
JOB 18;14-15 He is torn from the security of his tent and marched off to the king of
terrors. Fire resides (or Nothing he had remains) in his tent; burning sulfur is
scattered over his dwelling.
PSALM 11:6 On the wicked HE will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind
will be their lot.
ISAIAH 33:14 The sinners...are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can
dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?"
ISAIAH 66:22-24 "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before
ME...From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all
mankind...will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against
ME; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be
loathsome to all mankind."
JEREMIAH 23:12 "Therefore their path will become slippery; they will be banished to
darkness and there they will fall. I will bring disaster on them in the year they are
punished," declares THE LORD.
MATTHEW 3:12 HIS winnowing fork is in HIS hand, and HE will clear HIS threshing
floor, gathering HIS wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable
fire."
MATTHEW 5:22 ...in danger of the fire of hell.
MATTHEW 10:28 ...be afraid of THE ONE who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
MATTHEW 13:38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the
kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
MATTHEW 13:40-42 As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at
the end of the age. THE SON OF MAN will send out HIS angels, and they will weed
out of HIS kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw
them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
MATTHEW 18:8 ...thrown into eternal fire.
MATTHEW 23:33 ...How will you escape being condemned to hell?
MATTHEW 25:41 "Then HE will say to those on HIS left, 'Depart from ME, you who are
cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
LUKE 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear HIM who, after the killing of
the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear HIM.
2 THESSALONIANS 1:9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction...
REVELATION 14:10-11 he, too, will drink of the wine of GOD'S fury, which has been
poured full strength into the cup of HIS wrath. He will be tormented with burning
sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of THE LAMB. And the smoke of their
torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night...
REVELATION 20:15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.
REVELATION 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the sexually immoral,
those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the
fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
B. Saved From Being Utterly Forgotten.
DEUTERONOMY 32:26 I said I would scatter them and blot out their memory from
mankind,
JOB 4:20 ...unnoticed, they perish forever.
JOB 18:17 The memory of him perished from the earth; he has no name in the land.
PSALM 9:5 YOU have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; YOU have blotted
out their name for ever and ever.
PSALM 34:16 the face of THE LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory
of them from the earth.
PROVERBS 10:7 ...the name of the wicked will rot.
ECCLESIASTES 6:4 It comes without meaning, it departs in darkness, and in darkness
it's name is shrouded (or covered in obscurity).
C. Saved From Everlasting Separation From GOD.
MATTHEW 7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from ME, you
evildoers!'
MATTHEW 25:31-33 "When THE SON OF MAN comes in HIS glory, and all the angels
with HIM, HE will sit on HIS throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered
before HIM, and HE will separate the people one from another as a SHEPHERD
separates the sheep from the goats. HE will put the sheep on HIS right and the
goats on HIS left.
MATTHEW 25:41 Then HE will say to those on HIS left, 'Depart from ME, you who are
cursed...
MATTHEW 25:46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment...
2 THESSALONIANS 1:9 They will be...shut out from the presence of THE LORD and
from the majesty of HIS power
II. WHY DO YOU NEED SALVATION?
You're A Sinner And Deserve Hell. ECCLESIASTES 7:20 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and
never sins.
PSALM 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
JEREMIAH 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can
understand it?
EZEKIEL 18:4 For every living soul belongs to ME, the father as well as the son--both
alike belong to ME. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
EZEKIEL 18:20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the
guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son...the wickedness of the
wicked will be charged against him.
ROMANS 1:18-22 The wrath of GOD is being revealed from heaven against all the
godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress THE TRUTH by their
wickedness, since what may be known about GOD is plain to them, because GOD
has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world GOD'S invisible
qualities--HIS eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being
understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For
although they knew GOD, they neither glorified HIM as GOD nor gave thanks to
HIM, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
ROMANS 3:10-12 ..."There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who
understands, no one who seeks GOD. All have turned away, they have together
become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
ROMANS 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD,
ROMANS 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death
through sin...to all men, because all sinned--
ROMANS 6:23 For the wages of sin is death...
2 THESSALONIANS 2:10 ...They perish because they refused to love THE TRUTH and
so be saved.
2 THESSALONIANS 2:12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed THE
TRUTH but have delighted in wickedness.
EPHESIANS 2:1 ...dead in your transgressions and sins,
III. WHO OR WHAT CAN SAVE YOU?
A. You Can Not Save Yourself.
PROVERBS 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to
death. ISAIAH 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts
are like filthy rags. MATTHEW 19:25 ..."Who then can be saved?"
ROMANS 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in HIS sight by observing the
law...
COMMENT: No one will ever be in right standing with GOD by doing the
right things. CONTINUING...
ROMANS 3:27-28 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that
of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified
by faith apart from observing the law.
COMMENT: When those of us who receive salvation stand before GOD one
day, we will have absolutely nothing involved with our being there that we can
take credit for. CONTINUING...
ROMANS 4:2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast
about--but not before GOD.
ROMANS 4:4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but
as an obligation.
COMMENT: If we could work for our salvation, than receiving it would be our
right...it would be owed to us. Scripture, however, teaches us that salvation
is not a right or obligation of GOD owed to us, but an unearned gift.
CONTINUING...
ROMANS 4:14 For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise
is worthless,
COMMENT: If we could receive our salvation by anything we could do, we
would have no need of faith in GOD. CONTINUING...
ROMANS 5:18-19 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation
for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings
LIFE for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners,
so also through the obedience of the ONE MAN the many will be made righteous.
COMMENT: The one and only work that made possible our salvation has
already been performed. The one and only MAN who could have done this
work is JESUS CHRIST. The one act paid the price for every sin that had
and would ever be committed. The penalty for every sin has already been
paid. For GOD to eternally punish us (that is, those who are saved) when we
sin would mean one of two things: (1) that JESUS' sacrifice and shed blood
on the cross was not enough to pay the penalty and HE needs our help to do
it; or (2) GOD is not just, by requiring that each crime be fully paid for twice
by two different people. CONTINUING...
GALATIANS 2:16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in
JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in CHRIST JESUS that we may be
justified by faith in CHRIST and not by observing the law, because by observing the
law no one will be justified.
GALATIANS 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of GOD, for if righteousness could be
gained through the law, CHRIST died for nothing!"
COMMENT: What more needs to be said here? If we could gain salvation
through anything or anyone else; if we could get to heaven by anything we
did; everything THE LORD JESUS went through was nothing but a waste.
CONTINUING...
EPHESIANS 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not
from yourselves, it is the gift of GOD--not by works, so that no one can boast.
COMMENT: We are saved by grace (an undeserved gift of favor from GOD),
through faith. But even this faith that we possess is a gift from GOD. As far
as our salvation is concerned, GOD leaves us nothing that we can take credit
for. CONTINUING...
PHILIPPIANS 2:12-13 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed...
continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is GOD who works
in you to will and to act according to HIS good purpose.
COMMENT: Now, while the actual words "work out", used above, mean just
that, we know that, in context with the rest of scripture, these verses can not
possibly mean that we physically work out our salvation. If this were true,
salvation could be worked for and would not be by GOD'S grace. I believe, after comparing scripture with scripture, and with the revelation of
our TEACHER, THE PRECIOUS HOLY SPIRIT, that we are to continue in
or walk through our own salvation with fear, trembling and respect for GOD.
I believe that the end of verse 13 makes clear that it is not our work but
GOD'S that makes our salvation possible. CONTINUING...
B. No Ritual Or Other Earthly Means Can Save You.
PROVERBS 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to
death.
MARK 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not
believe will be condemned.
COMMENT: Some have used this verse, and others, to show that the
physical act of water baptism is essential to ones' salvation. Since we have
already seen that no works of any kind can claim a part of our being made
righteous before GOD, then water baptism cannot save us nor can it even
play a part in saving us. Remember I said water baptism...there is another
and it is absolutely necessary to our salvation, in fact, we cannot be saved
without this baptism. More on this in a moment. CONTINUING...
JOHN 3:22 After this, JESUS and HIS disciples went out into the Judean countryside,
where HE spent some time with them, and baptized.
JOHN 4:1-2 The Pharisees heard that JESUS was gaining and baptizing more disciples
than John, although in fact it was not JESUS who baptized, but HIS disciples.
COMMENT: If we only read John 3:22 and 4:1 above, we are left with the
idea that JESUS personally baptized many people. In fact, however, as John
4:2 plainly tells us, JESUS didn't actually, personally baptize anyone
HIMSELF. Think about the implication of this. If it was absolutely essential
for someone to be baptized in water in order to be saved, doesn't it seem
logical that JESUS would personally baptize...at least once? This, however,
was not done...not even once! CONTINUING...
1 CORINTHIANS 1:14 I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you...
1 CORINTHIANS 1:17 For CHRIST did not send me to baptize, but to preach the
gospel...
COMMENT: Again, if water baptism was essential to our salvation, why
would Paul be thankful that he didn't baptize certain people, and also, why
would CHRIST send him only to preach and not to perform something as vital
as water baptism if it was so necessary to our salvation? The following verses will make clear exactly what kind of baptism that JESUS
was called to perform. CONTINUING...
MATTHEW 3:11 ...HE will baptize you with THE HOLY SPIRIT and with fire.
EPHESIANS 4:4-6 There is ONE BODY and ONE SPIRIT...ONE LORD, one faith, one
baptism; ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL, who is over all and through all and in
all.
1 CORINTHIANS 12:13 For we were all baptized by (or with; or in) one SPIRIT into one
BODY...and we were all given THE ONE SPIRIT to drink.
TITUS 3:5 HE saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of
HIS mercy. HE saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the HOLY
SPIRIT,
COMMENT: We can clearly see from the above that there is indeed a
baptism that is essential for our salvation but it is the baptism in THE HOLY
SPIRIT and not a baptism in water. The importance of water baptism is
clearly set forth in the following verse. CONTINUING...
1 PETER 3:21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the
removal of dirt from the body but the pledge (or response) of a good conscience
toward GOD. It saves you by the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST,
COMMENT: The purpose of water baptism is the public proclamation of our
acceptance by faith of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST as our SAVIOR. It is
done out of obedience to THE LORD from and for a good conscience toward
GOD. CONTINUING...
C. Salvation Comes Only Through JESUS CHRIST.
MATTHEW 1:21 ...give HIM THE NAME JESUS, because HE will save HIS people from
their sins."
MARK 16:16 Whoever believes...will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be
condemned.
LUKE 19:10 For THE SON OF MAN came to seek and to save what was lost."
JOHN 1:12 Yet to all who received HIM, to those who believed in HIS NAME, HE gave
the right to become children of GOD--
JOHN 3:16 For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS ONE AND ONLY SON (or
HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON), that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but
have ETERNAL LIFE.
JOHN 3:18 Whoever believes in HIM is not condemned, but whoever does not believe
stands condemned already because he has not believed in THE NAME of GOD'S
ONE AND ONLY SON.
JOHN 3:21 But whoever lives by THE TRUTH comes into THE LIGHT, so that it may be
seen plainly that what he has done has been done through GOD."
COMMENT: The next three verses identify THE TRUTH and THE LIGHT for
us in case there is any doubt CONTINUING...
JOHN 1:4 In HIM was LIFE, and that LIFE was THE LIGHT of men.
JOHN 8:12 When JESUS spoke again to the people, HE said, "I AM THE LIGHT OF
THE WORLD...THE LIGHT OF LIFE."
JOHN 14:6 JESUS answered, "I AM...THE TRUTH...No one comes to THE FATHER
except through ME.
JOHN 3:36 Whoever believes in THE SON has ETERNAL LIFE...
JOHN 6:40 For MY FATHER'S will is that everyone who looks to THE SON and believes
in HIM shall have ETERNAL LIFE, and I will raise him up at the last day."
ACTS 2:21 And everyone who calls on THE NAME OF THE LORD will be saved.'
ACTS 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given to men by which we must be saved."
ACTS 16:31 ...Believe in THE LORD JESUS, and you will be saved...
ROMANS 3:22 This righteousness from GOD comes through faith in JESUS CHRIST
to all who believe...
ROMANS 3:24 and are justified freely by HIS grace through the redemption that came
by CHRIST JESUS.
ROMANS 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the
law.
ROMANS 4:3 ..."Abraham believed GOD, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
ROMANS 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts GOD who justifies the
wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness
COMMENT: The above verse shows us that our salvation cannot be worked
for in any way, but comes by trust in GOD. It also shows us that it is the
wicked who are justified not the righteous. This makes sense since apart
from JESUS CHRIST there are no righteous. We cannot clean up our lives
before coming to CHRIST. All of us come to him as wicked, vile, ungodly,
sinners because only the sinner can be justified/saved. CONTINUING...
ROMANS 4:16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and
may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law
but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
ROMANS 5:9-12 Since we have now been justified by HIS blood, how much more shall
we be saved from GOD'S wrath through HIM! For if, when we were GOD'S
enemies, we were reconciled to HIM through the death of HIS SON, how much
more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through HIS LIFE!
COMMENT: Once again we see that JESUS did not come to save people
who had already made themselves good, clean, holy, righteous, etc. (there
is no one who could make themself righteous). HE came to reconcile
sinners, HIS enemies. CONTINUING...
...JESUS CHRIST, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through
sin...to all men, because all sinned--
ROMANS 5:15-19 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the
trespass of the one man, how much more did GOD'S grace and the gift that came
by the grace of the ONE MAN, JESUS CHRIST, overflow to the many! Again, the
gift of GOD is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgement followed one
sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought
justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one
man, how much more will those who receive GOD'S abundant provision of grace
and of the gift of righteousness reign in LIFE through the ONE MAN, JESUS
CHRIST. Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all
men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings LIFE
for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were
made sinners, so also through the obedience of the ONE MAN the many will be
made righteous.
ROMANS 8:32 HE who did not spare HIS OWN SON, but gave HIM up for us all--how
will HE not also, along with HIM, graciously give us all things?
ROMANS 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth, "JESUS IS LORD," and believe
in your heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with
your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved.
GALATIANS 2:16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in
JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in CHRIST JESUS that we may be
justified by faith in CHRIST and not by observing the law, because by observing the
law no one will be justified.
GALATIANS 2:20 I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST
lives in me. The LIFE I live in the body, I live by faith in THE SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.
EPHESIANS 2:5 ...it is by grace you have been saved.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:9 For GOD did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive
salvation through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
1 TIMOTHY 2:3 ...GOD our SAVIOR,
2 TIMOTHY 1:8-10 ...GOD, who has saved us and called us to a holy LIFE--not because
of anything we have done but because of HIS own purpose and grace. This grace
was given us in CHRIST JESUS before the beginning of time, but it has now been
revealed through the appearing of our SAVIOR, CHRIST JESUS, who has destroyed
death and has brought LIFE and IMMORTALITY to light through the gospel.
TITUS 3:4-5 But when the kindness and love of GOD our SAVIOR appeared, HE saved
us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of HIS mercy. HE
saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the HOLY SPIRIT,
1 PETER 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of
imperishable, through the living and enduring WORD OF GOD.
1 PETER 3:18 For CHRIST died for sins once for all, THE RIGHTEOUS for the
unrighteous, to bring you to GOD...
1 JOHN 5:11-12 ...GOD has given us ETERNAL LIFE, and this LIFE is in HIS SON. He
who has THE SON has LIFE; he who does not have THE SON OF GOD does not
have LIFE.
IV. WHY WOULD HE SAVE YOU? A. Because HE Is Loving.
PSALM 89:2 I will declare that YOUR love stands firm forever...
PSALM 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is HIS love for
those who fear HIM;
PSALM 145:13 ...THE LORD...is loving toward all HE has made.
JEREMIAH 31:3 ...I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with
loving-kindness.
JOHN 3:16 For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS ONE AND ONLY SON (or
HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON), that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but
have ETERNAL LIFE.,
ROMANS 5:8 But GOD demonstrates HIS own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, CHRIST died for us.
ROMANS 8:39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of GOD that is in CHRIST JESUS our LORD.
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-5 Love...keeps no record of wrongs.
1 CORINTHIANS 13:7-8 ...always protects...always perseveres. Love never fails...
GALATIANS 2:20 I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST
lives in me. The LIFE I live in the body, I live by faith in THE SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.
EPHESIANS 2:4 But because of HIS great love for us, GOD, who is rich in mercy, made
us alive with CHRIST even when we were dead in transgressions...
EPHESIANS 5:2 ...CHRIST loved us and gave HIMSELF up for us as a fragrant offering
and sacrifice to GOD.
1 JOHN 4:16 ...GOD is love...
B. Because HE Is Merciful.
PSALM 103:10 HE does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our
iniquities.
ISAIAH 31:17 ...In YOUR love YOU kept me from the pit of destruction...
LAMENTATIONS 3:22 Because of THE LORD'S great love we are not consumed, for
HIS compassions never fail.
TITUS 3:5 HE saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of
HIS mercy. HE saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the HOLY
SPIRIT,
C. Because HE Is Gracious.
DEUTERONOMY 7:7-8 THE LORD did not set HIS affection on you and choose you
because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of
all peoples. But it was because THE LORD loved you and kept the oath HE swore
to your forefathers...
DEUTERONOMY 9:5-7 It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you
are going in to take possession of their land...THE LORD your GOD will drive them
out before you, to accomplish what HE swore to your fathers...Understand, then, that
it is not because of your righteousness that THE LORD your GOD is giving you this
good land to possess, for you are a stiff necked people. Remember this and never
forget how you provoked THE LORD your GOD to anger in the desert. From the
day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against THE
LORD.
PSALM 23:3 HE restores my soul. HE guides me in paths of righteousness for HIS
NAME'S sake.
PSALM 103:8 THE LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in
love.
PSALM 103:10 HE does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our
iniquities.
ISAIAH 43:25 "I, even I, am HE who blots out your transgressions, for MY own sake, and
remembers your sins no more.
EZEKIEL 36:22-30 ...'This is what THE SOVEREIGN LORD says: It is not for your
sake...that I AM going to do these things, but for the sake of MY HOLY NAME...I will
show the holiness of MY GREAT NAME, which has been profaned among the
nations...Then the nations will know that I AM THE LORD, declares THE
SOVEREIGN LORD, when I show MYSELF holy through you before their eyes.
"'For I will take you out of the nations...and bring you back into your own land. ...I
will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new
heart and put a NEW SPIRIT in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and
give you a heart of flesh. And I will put MY SPIRIT in you and move you to follow
MY decrees...you will be MY people, and I will be your GOD. I will save you from all
your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring
famine upon you. I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so
that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations...
EZEKIEL 36:32-34 I want you to know that I AM not doing this for your sake, declares
THE SOVEREIGN LORD...On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle
your towns...The desolate land will be cultivated...
EZEKIEL 36:36 Then the nations around you that remain will know that I THE LORD
have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I THE
LORD have spoken, and I will do it.'
ACTS 15:11 ...We believe it is through the grace of our LORD JESUS that we are
saved...
ROMANS 3:24 and are justified freely by HIS grace through the redemption that came
by CHRIST JESUS.
ROMANS 8:32 HE who did not spare HIS OWN SON, but gave HIM up for us all--how
will HE not also, along with HIM, graciously give us all things?
ROMANS 11:5-6 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And
if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace. COMMENT: This is probably one of the best examples of the grace of GOD defined and the distinction between grace and works--clear and simple.
CONTINUING...
1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-31 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not
many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many
were of noble birth. But GOD chose the foolish things of the world to shame the
wise; GOD chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. HE chose the
lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to
nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before HIM. It is because of HIM
that you are in CHRIST JESUS, who has become for us WISDOM FROM GOD--that
is, our RIGHTEOUSNESS, HOLINESS and REDEMPTION. Therefore, as it is
written: "Let him who boasts boast in THE LORD."
EPHESIANS 2:6-9 And GOD raised us up with CHRIST and seated us with HIM in the
heavenly realms in CHRIST JESUS, in order that in the coming ages HE might show
the incomparable riches of HIS grace, expressed in HIS kindness to us in CHRIST
JESUS. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of GOD--not by works, so that no one can boast.
2 TIMOTHY 1:8-9 ...GOD, who has saved us and called us to a holy LIFE--not because
of anything we have done but because of HIS own purpose and grace. This grace
was given us in CHRIST JESUS before the beginning of time,
TITUS 3:5 HE saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of
HIS mercy. HE saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the HOLY
SPIRIT,
1 JOHN 2:12 ...your sins have been forgiven on account of HIS name.
D. Because HE Is Compassionate.
PSALM 8:3-4 When I consider YOUR heavens, the work of YOUR fingers, the moon and
the stars, which YOU have set in place, what is man that YOU are mindful of him,
the son of man that YOU care for him?
PSALM 103:13-14 As a FATHER has compassion on HIS children, so THE LORD has
compassion on those who fear HIM; for HE knows how we are formed, HE
remembers that we are dust.
ROMANS 3:24 and are justified freely by HIS grace through the redemption that came
by CHRIST JESUS.
ROMANS 5:10 For if, when we were GOD'S enemies, we were reconciled to HIM
through the death of HIS SON, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we
be saved through HIS LIFE!
V. HOW WILL GOD SAVE YOU? MATTHEW 19:26 ...with GOD all things are possible." A. HE Died For You.
ISAIAH 53:5-6 But HE was pierced for our transgressions, HE was crushed for our
iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon HIM, and by HIS wounds
we are healed (or cured; or made thoroughly whole). We all, like sheep, have gone
astray...and THE LORD has laid on HIM the iniquity of us all.
JOHN 3:16 For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS ONE AND ONLY SON (or
HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON), that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but
have ETERNAL LIFE.
ROMANS 4:25 HE was delivered over to death for our sins
ROMANS 5:6-8 ...when we were still powerless, CHRIST died for the ungodly. Very
rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might
possibly dare to die. But GOD demonstrates HIS own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, CHRIST died for us.
ROMANS 5:10 For if, when we were GOD'S enemies, we were reconciled to HIM
through the death of HIS SON, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we
be saved through HIS LIFE!
1 CORINTHIANS 15:3 ...CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
2 CORINTHIANS 5:15 And HE died for all, that those who live should no longer live for
themselves but for HIM who died for them and was raised again.
GALATIANS 2:20 I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST
lives in me. The LIFE I live in the body, I live by faith in THE SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.
EPHESIANS 5:2 ...CHRIST loved us and gave HIMSELF up for us as a fragrant offering
and sacrifice to GOD.
EPHESIANS 5:25 ...CHRIST loved the church and gave HIMSELF up for her
1 THESSALONIANS 5:9-10 For GOD did not appoint (or ordain) us to suffer wrath but
to receive salvation through our LORD JESUS CHRIST. HE died for us so that,
whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with HIM.
1 JOHN 3:16 ...JESUS CHRIST laid down HIS LIFE for us... B. HE Rose From The Dead For You.
ACTS 10:40 but GOD raised HIM from the dead on the third day and caused HIM to be
seen.
ROMANS 4:25 HE was...raised to LIFE for our justification.
ROMANS 6:4-5 We were therefore buried with HIM through baptism into death in order
that, just as CHRIST was raised from the dead through the glory of THE FATHER,
we too may live a new LIFE. If we have been united with HIM like this in HIS death, we will certainly also be
united with HIM in HIS resurrection.
1 CORINTHIANS 15:4 that HE was buried, that HE was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
C. HE Bought You For HIMSELF.
ACTS 20:28 ...the church of GOD, which HE bought with HIS own blood.
ROMANS 14:8 If we live, we live to THE LORD; and if we die, we die to THE LORD. So,
whether we live or die, we belong to THE LORD.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of THE HOLY
SPIRIT, who is in you, whom you have received from GOD? You are not your own;
you were bought with a price...
2 CORINTHIANS 1:22 set HIS SEAL OF OWNERSHIP on us...
1 PETER 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or
gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from
your forefathers, but with the precious blood of CHRIST, A LAMB without blemish
or defect.
REVELATION 5:9 ...with YOUR blood you purchased men for GOD from every tribe and
language and people and nation. D. HE Will Forgive You Of All Your Sins. 1. Before salvation:
PSALM 103:1-3 Praise THE LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise HIS HOLY
NAME. Praise THE LORD, O my soul, and forget not all HIS benefits--who forgives
all your sins and heals all your diseases,
PSALM 103:9 HE will not always accuse, nor will HE harbor HIS anger forever;
ISAIAH 1:18 ...Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though
they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
MICAH 7:18-19 Who is a GOD like YOU, who pardons sin and forgives the
transgression of the remnant of HIS inheritance?...YOU will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
ACTS 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to GOD, so that your sins may be wiped out...
1 JOHN 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may
have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with THE FATHER and with HIS
SON, JESUS CHRIST.
1 JOHN 1:9 If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness.
COMMENT: I am here to admit to you that, as of the date of this writing, I am
one of those who believes that 1 John 1:9 was written to unbelievers. I believe this because of what 1 John 1:3 says and because of what, I
believe, the rest of scripture supports. I believe that 1 John, as well as many
if not most, of the New Testament books, was written to the unsaved as well
as the saved. Just as we have unbelievers sitting in church and hearing
GOD'S WORD right along with the saved today, there were unbelievers
together with believers back then who needed to here the good news. I
believe that 1 John was directed at the unbelievers. Let's look at 1 John 1:3
again: "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also
may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with THE FATHER and
with HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST." "We proclaim...". Who? The apostles, the
church, believers. How do I know this? "...fellowship with us. And our
fellowship is with THE FATHER and with HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST." "We
proclaim to you...". Who is you? The "you" here are unbelievers. How do
I know this? "...so that you also may have fellowship with us...". Because the
"you" here does not share that fellowship with THE FATHER and with HIS
SON, JESUS CHRIST, that the "We" have. CONTINUING...
2. After salvation:
PSALM 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has HE removed our
transgressions from us.
PROVERBS 10:12 ...love covers over all wrongs.
ISAIAH 38:17 ...YOU have put all my sins behind YOUR back.
ISAIAH 43:25 "I, even I, am HE who blots out your transgressions, for MY own sake, and
remembers your sins no more.
MATTHEW 26:28 This is MY blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the
forgiveness of sins.
JOHN 3:18 Whoever believes in HIM is not condemned...because he has...believed in
THE NAME of GOD'S ONE AND ONLY SON.
JOHN 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears MY word and believes HIM who sent ME
has ETERNAL LIFE and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to
LIFE.
ACTS 13:38-39 Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through JESUS the
forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through HIM everyone who believes is
justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law...
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-5 Love...keeps no record of wrongs.
EPHESIANS 1:7 In HIM we have redemption through HIS blood, the forgiveness of sins,
in accordance with the riches of GOD'S grace
EPHESIANS 4:32 ...in CHRIST GOD forgave you.
COLOSSIANS 1:13-14 For HE has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and
brought us into the kingdom of THE SON HE loves, in whom we have redemption,
the forgiveness of sins. COLOSSIANS 2:13-14 ...HE forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code,
with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; HE took it
away, nailing it to the cross.
COLOSSIANS 3:13 ...Forgive as THE LORD forgave you.
COMMENT: I want to bring your attention to the underlined words in the
previous three verses above: 1. Forgave; 2. All; 3. Canceled; 4. Took.
Notice that all four of these words are in the past tense except for the word
"all". JESUS "took" "all" of our sins, past, present and future. HE "took" them
away (see Psalm 103:12 and Isaiah 43:25 above). THE LORD "forgave" us--already done, and "canceled" (or obliterated; or blotted out) the regulations
that were against, and stood opposed to us. You must keep in mind,
however, that forgiveness, in the past tense, applies only to those who have
been saved and not to unbelievers (those who have not received GOD'S
forgiveness in CHRIST). CONTINUING...
HEBREWS 9:12 HE did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but HE
entered the Most Holy Place once for all by HIS own blood, having obtained eternal
redemption.
HEBREWS 10:17-18 ...Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." And where
these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.
COMMENT: Here we see that the price, the penalty, the debt, the
punishment, etc. for sin...all sin...every sin has been paid by CHRIST'S
sacrifice, once for all. No other sacrifice is needed or, more importantly,
available. CONTINUING...
1 PETER 3:18 For CHRIST died for sins once for all, THE RIGHTEOUS for the
unrighteous, to bring you to GOD...
1 JOHN 2:1-2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody
does sin, we have ONE who speaks to THE FATHER in our defense--JESUS
CHRIST, THE RIGHTEOUS ONE. HE is THE ATONING SACRIFICE for (or HE is
the ONE who turns aside GOD's wrath, taking away our sins, and not only ours but
also) the sins of the whole world.
1 JOHN 2:12 ...your sins have been forgiven on account of HIS NAME.
COMMENT: "have been"...again past tense...this has already been done.
CONTINUING...
E. HE Indwells You By HIS SPIRIT
EZEKIEL 11:19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a NEW SPIRIT in them; I will
remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
EZEKIEL 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a NEW SPIRIT in you; I will remove
from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:17 But he who unites himself with THE LORD is one with HIM in
SPIRIT.
2 CORINTHIANS 1:22 ...and put HIS SPIRIT in our hearts as a DEPOSIT...
1 JOHN 2:20 But you have an ANOINTING from THE HOLY ONE, and all of you know
THE TRUTH.
1 JOHN 2:27 As for you, THE ANOINTING you received from HIM remains in you, and
you do not need anyone to teach you. But as HIS ANOINTING teaches you about
all things and as that ANOINTING is real, not counterfeit--just as IT has taught you,
remain in HIM. F. HE Seals You For HIMSELF 2 CORINTHIANS 1:22 set HIS SEAL OF OWNERSHIP on us...HIS SPIRIT...a
DEPOSIT, guaranteeing what is to come.
EPHESIANS 1:13-14 And you also were included in CHRIST when you heard THE
WORD OF TRUTH, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were
marked in HIM with a SEAL, the promised HOLY SPIRIT, who is a DEPOSIT
guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are GOD'S
possession...
COMMENT: As we can clearly see from 1 Corinthians 1:22 & Ephesians
1:13 above, THE SEAL spoken of is none other than THE HOLY SPIRIT
HIMSELF. 1 Corinthians 1:22 & Ephesians 1:14 remind us who we
are...GOD'S possession. We are owned by GOD, HIMSELF! Notice also in
these two verses, one of the many jobs or responsibilities of THE HOLY
SPIRIT: HE IS A GUARANTEEING DEPOSIT! CONTINUING...
G. HE Sets You Apart For HIMSELF.
JOHN 17:17 Sanctify (or set apart for sacred use or make holy) them by THE TRUTH;
YOUR WORD IS TRUTH.
JOHN 17:19 For them I sanctify MYSELF, that they too may be truly sanctified.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:23 May GOD HIMSELF, THE GOD OF PEACE, sanctify you
through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the
coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. COMMENT: The job of "actual" sanctification is not our job but THE LORD'S.
CONTINUING...
H. HE Justifies You.
ACTS 13:39 Through HIM everyone who believes is justified from everything you could
not be justified from by the law...
ROMANS 3:24 and are justified freely by HIS grace through the redemption that came
by CHRIST JESUS.
ROMANS 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the
law.
ROMANS 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts GOD who justifies the
wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness
ROMANS 5:9 Since we have now been justified by HIS blood, how much more shall we
be saved from GOD'S wrath through HIM!
ROMANS 8:30 And those HE predestined, HE also called; those HE called (or bid to; or
named), HE also justified; those HE justified, HE also glorified.
ROMANS 8:33 Who will bring any charge against those whom GOD has chosen? It is
GOD who justifies.
COMMENT: Here, in the above section, I bring your attention to three things:
1. Our justification is free (Acts 13:39); 2. Our justification, once we are
saved, is done (Romans 5:9); & 3. It is GOD, not us, who justifies.
CONTINUING...
I. HE Makes You Holy.
EPHESIANS 1:4 For HE chose us in HIM before the creation of the world to be holy and
blameless in HIS sight...
EPHESIANS 5:25-27 ...CHRIST loved the church and gave HIMSELF up for her to make
her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through THE WORD, and to
present her to HIMSELF as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and blameless.
HEBREWS 2:11 Both the ONE who makes men holy and those who are made holy are
of the same family. So JESUS is not ashamed to call them brothers.
HEBREWS 13:12 And so JESUS also suffered...to make the people holy through HIS
own blood.
COMMENT: Who makes us holy? Do we do it by our thoughts, actions,
etc.? No! It is JESUS CHRIST who makes us holy. CONTINUING...
J. HE Makes You Righteous.
ROMANS 3:21-22 But now a righteousness from GOD, apart from law, has been made
known...This righteousness from GOD comes through faith in JESUS CHRIST to all
who believe...
ROMANS 4:3 ..."Abraham believed GOD, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
ROMANS 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts GOD who justifies the
wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness
ROMANS 5:17 ...how much more will those who receive GOD'S abundant provision of
grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in LIFE through the ONE MAN, JESUS
CHRIST.
COMMENT: GOD'S righteousness is a gift...given, not earned!
CONTINUING...
ROMANS 5:19 ...through the obedience of the ONE MAN the many will be made
righteous. COMMENT: Once again, it is GOD'S job to make us righteous.
CONTINUING...
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 GOD made HIM who had no sin to be sin (or to be a sin offering)
for us, so that in HIM we might become the righteousness of GOD.
GALATIANS 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of GOD, for if righteousness could be
gained through the law, CHRIST died for nothing!"
1 JOHN 1:9 If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness.
K. HE Gives You A New And EVERLASTING LIFE.
JOHN 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears MY word and believes HIM who sent ME
has ETERNAL LIFE and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to
LIFE.
ROMANS 6:4-5 ...just as CHRIST was raised from the dead through the glory of THE
FATHER, we too may live a new LIFE. ...we have been united with HIM...in HIS
resurrection.
ROMANS 6:8-9 ...we will also live with HIM. For we know that since CHRIST was raised
from the dead, HE cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over HIM.
ROMANS 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to GOD in
CHRIST JESUS.
COMMENT: The above four verses (Romans 6:5, 8-9, 11) are very
important. First we are told that because CHRIST died, HE cannot die again;
second, since we have been united with HIM in HIS resurrection, "in the same
way" we have a LIFE in CHRIST that will never end. We also "cannot die
again". CONTINUING...
ROMANS 6:23 ...the gift of GOD is ETERNAL LIFE in (or through) CHRIST JESUS our
LORD.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in CHRIST, he is a new creation; the old
has gone, the new has come!
GALATIANS 2:20 I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST
lives in me. The LIFE I live in the body, I live by faith in THE SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.
COMMENT: The reason that the Christian has an eternal, unending,
EVERLASTING LIFE is that the LIFE in the Christian is not his/her own but
it is the eternal, unending LIFE of THE LORD that he/she is indwelt with.
CONTINUING...
EPHESIANS 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
EPHESIANS 2:4-5 But because of HIS great love for us, GOD, who is rich in mercy,
made us alive with CHRIST even when we were dead in transgressions...
COLOSSIANS 2:13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your
sinful nature, GOD made you alive with CHRIST.
2 TIMOTHY 1:10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our SAVIOR,
CHRIST JESUS, who has destroyed death and has brought LIFE and immortality
to light through the gospel.
1 JOHN 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to LIFE...
L. HE Cleanses You. 1. Before: MATTHEW 15:19-20 For out of the heart come evil thoughts...These are what make a
man 'unclean'... MARK 7:21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts...
MARK 7:23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'"
2. After:
EZEKIEL 36:25 ...I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
EPHESIANS 5:26-27 ...cleansing her by the washing with water through THE WORD,
and to present her to HIMSELF as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any
other blemish...
HEBREWS 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of CHRIST...cleanse our
consciences from acts that lead to death (or from dead works)...
COMMENT: This verse isn't speaking of the cleansing of a Christian's spirit,
this was done at salvation, but is clearly talking about cleansing our
conscience. CONTINUING...
HEBREWS 10:22 let us draw near to GOD with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our
bodies washed with pure water.
1 JOHN 1:7 ...the blood of JESUS, HIS SON, purifies us from all (or every) sin.
COMMENT: Our sin...every sin...is not purified by repentance, doing good,
or anything else we could do but only by the precious blood of JESUS.
CONTINUING...
REVELATION 7:14 ...they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood
of THE LAMB.
M. HE Frees You From The Power Of Sin And Death.
ROMANS 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with HIM, so that the body of
sin might be done away with (or be rendered powerless)...
ROMANS 6:17-18 But thanks be to GOD that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you
wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have
been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
ROMANS 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves
to GOD, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is ETERNAL LIFE.
ROMANS 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in CHRIST
JESUS, because through CHRIST JESUS the law of the SPIRIT OF LIFE set me
free from the law of sin and death.
COLOSSIANS 2:14-15 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was
against us and that stood opposed to us; HE took it away, nailing it to the cross.
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, HE made a public spectacle of
them, triumphing over them by the cross.
2 TIMOTHY 1:10-11 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our SAVIOR,
CHRIST JESUS, who has destroyed death and has brought LIFE and immortality
to light through the gospel. ...If we died with HIM, we will also live with HIM; N. HE Makes You Like JESUS.
ROMANS 8:29 For those GOD foreknew HE also predestined to be conformed to the
likeness of HIS SON...
1 CORINTHIANS 6:17 But he who unites himself with THE LORD is one with HIM in
SPIRIT.
PHILIPPIANS 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a SAVIOR
from there, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, who, by THE POWER that enables HIM
to bring everything under HIS control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will
be like HIS glorious body. O. HE Makes You A Partaker In HIS Death And Resurrection. ROMANS 6:3-6 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into CHRIST JESUS
were baptized into HIS death? We were therefore buried with HIM through baptism
into death in order that, just as CHRIST was raised from the dead through the glory
of THE FATHER, we too may live a new LIFE. If we have been united with HIM like
this in HIS death, we will certainly also be united with HIM in HIS resurrection. For
we know that our old self was crucified with HIM, so that the body of sin might be
done away with (or be rendered powerless)...
COMMENT: Please do yourself a service and spend some serious time
meditating on the above four verses. We have already (past tense, done,
finished) been united with CHRIST in HIS death, burial, resurrection and
ETERNAL LIFE in Heaven with THE FATHER. CONTINUING...
ROMANS 6:8-9 Now if we died with CHRIST, we believe that we will also live with HIM.
For we know that since CHRIST was raised from the dead, HE cannot die again;
death no longer has mastery over HIM.
ROMANS 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to GOD in
CHRIST JESUS.
GALATIANS 2:20 I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST
lives in me. The LIFE I live in the body, I live by faith in THE SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave HIMSELF for me.
COLOSSIANS 3:3 For you died, and your LIFE is now hidden with CHRIST in GOD.
P. HE Gives You A New Heart. 1. Your heart before:
JEREMIAH 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can
understand it?
EZEKIEL 11:19 ...divided heart and...their heart of stone...
EZEKIEL 36:26 ...your heart of stone...
MATTHEW 15:19-20 For out of the heart come evil thoughts... These are what make a
man 'unclean'...
MARK 7:21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts...
MARK 7:23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'
LUKE 6:45 ...the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
ACTS 8:21 ...your heart is not right before GOD.
ROMANS 1:21 ...they neither glorified HIM as GOD nor gave thanks to HIM...their foolish
hearts were darkened.
ROMANS 1:24 Therefore GOD gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts...
2. Your heart after:
JEREMIAH 24:7 I will give them a heart to know ME, that I AM THE LORD. They will be
my people, and I will be their GOD...
MATTHEW 22:37 JESUS replied: "'Love THE LORD your GOD with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind.'
LUKE 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart...For
out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
ACTS 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind...
ROMANS 6:17 But thanks be to GOD that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you
wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
ROMANS 10:9-10 ...and believe in your heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead...For
it is with your heart that you believe and are justified...
EPHESIANS 6:5-6 ...obey...with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you
would obey CHRIST...doing the will of GOD from your heart.
COLOSSIANS 3:22 ...obey...with sincerity of heart and reverence for THE LORD.
1 TIMOTHY 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart...
2 TIMOTHY 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love
and peace, along with those who call on THE LORD out of a pure heart.
HEBREWS 10:22 let us draw near to GOD with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience...
1 PETER 1:22 ...love one another deeply, from the heart.
COMMENT: Before your heart was changed by GOD you could not: 1.
"know ME" (GOD)...Jeremiah 24:7; 2. "Love THE LORD your GOD with all
your heart"...Matthew 22:37; 3. bring "good things out of the good stored up
in" your "heart"...Luke 6:45; 4. be "one in heart and mind"...Acts 4:32; 5.
"believe in your heart that GOD raised HIM" (JESUS) "from the
dead"...Romans 10:9; 6. "obey...with respect and fear, and with sincerity of
heart" ...Ephesians 6:5; 7. do "the will of GOD from your heart"...Ephesians
6:6; 8. "obey...with sincerity of heart and reverence for THE
LORD"...Colossians 3:22; 9. love "from a pure heart"...1 Timothy 1:5; 10. "call on THE LORD out of a pure heart"...2 Timothy 2:22; 11. "draw near to GOD with a sincere heart in full assurance of

Q. HE Makes You Blameless. ACTS 20:26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.
COMMENT: We all know that in the natural, Paul really was guilty of murder,
however, when GOD forgives, though man may record & remember Paul's
(or anyone else's) sin, GOD does not. As far as THE LORD is concerned,
Paul is innocent. CONTINUING...
1 CORINTHIANS 1:8 HE will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless
on the day of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:23 May GOD HIMSELF, THE GOD OF PEACE, sanctify you
through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the
coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
JUDE 24 To HIM who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before HIS
GLORIOUS PRESENCE without fault and with great joy--
VI. CAN YOU BECOME "UNSAVED"? A. No! You Are Not Yours. EXODUS 21:5-6 "But if the servant declares, 'I love my MASTER and my wife and
children and do not want to go free,' then his MASTER must take him before the
JUDGES. HE shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an
awl. Then he will be HIS servant for life.
COMMENT: It is obvious that, at least at some point, the servant has a
choice to remain with his MASTER or not (who could very easily be a type of
THE LORD), however, once the decision to remain has been made there is
no turning back...the decision is a permanent one. CONTINUING...
ACTS 20:28 ...the church of GOD, which HE bought with HIS own blood.
ROMANS 14:8 ...we belong to THE LORD.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:20 You are not your own; you were bought with a price...
2 CORINTHIANS 1:22 set HIS SEAL OF OWNERSHIP on us...
1 PETER 1:18-19 ...it was not with perishable things...that you were redeemed...but with
the precious blood of CHRIST...
REVELATION 5:9 ...with YOUR blood YOU purchased men for GOD...
B. No! THE SEAL Is Not Yours.
2 CORINTHIANS 1:22 set HIS SEAL OF OWNERSHIP on us, and put HIS SPIRIT in our
hearts as a DEPOSIT, guaranteeing what is to come.
EPHESIANS 1:13-14 And you also were included in CHRIST when you heard THE
